Milwaukee, Wis. – The Cardinal Stritch University men’s soccer team looked to keep in the win column as they opened up their home schedule. Stritch took on St. Ambrose University in the first game of the Four Corners Tournament. Stritch and St. Ambrose played to a 2-2 tie.
The Wolves were the first team on the scoreboard. The Fighting Bees were called for a foul in the box, which resulted in a Ben Allen (Whalley, England) penalty kick. Allen beat goalie, Greg Slater (Yamhill, Ore.) giving Stritch an early 1-0 lead.
Stritch would make it 2-0 in the second half. Allen took a pass from Shay Douglas (Cairns, Australia) and beat the Fighting Bees goalie for his second goal of the match.
Cardinal Stritch University looked to have control of the match late in the second half and on their way to their third straight victory but the Fighting Bees had a different plan. After just crossing mid-field Bismark Ansah (Bronx, N.Y.) lofted the ball towards the goal; it went over the head of the Wolves goalie putting the Fighting Bees down one at 2-1.
St. Ambrose continued to battle back and drew a foul on Stritch in the box to draw a penalty kick. Tony Villasenor (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) took the shot for the Fighting Bees and beat goalie Mike Nowak (Milwaukee, Wis.), tying the game at 2-2.
The Wolves and the Fighting Bees went to two overtimes before the game settled in a 2-2 tie. The Wolves record goes to 2-0-1 and the Fighting Bees to 0-2-1. Stritch returns to action tomorrow, Saturday September 4 when they take on Webber International University in the Wolves Four Corners Tournament. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
