Milwaukee, Wis. – After opening the 2010 soccer season with two wins, the Cardinal Stritch University Wolves men’s soccer team received more good news as freshman
Shay Douglas (Cairns, Australia), has been named Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Offensive Player of the Week.
Playing in the Northwestern College Pizza Ranch Classic, Douglas helped the Wolves get off on the right foot against Dordt College.
Playing in his first collegiate match, Douglas nearly single-handedly led the Wolves past Dordt College. Douglas would end up scoring three goals for the hat trick. He scored his first goal came in the 26th minute to break a 1-1 tie. Douglas’ second goal of the game would come three minutes later putting the Wolves up 3-1.
His third and final goal of the game would happen in the 57th minute and would secure the victory for Stritch.
“Shay played extremely strong in the match,” head coach Jeff Bohacek said. “He stayed on the offensive and it paid off in a big way for us.”
Douglas and the Wolves would return to the pitch the next day to win their second match of the tournament, 1-0, against Northwestern College to seal the tournament crown.
The Wolves will return to action this Friday as they will be hosting the Wolves Four Corners Classic at Uihlein Soccer Complex. Stritch will open up play on Friday at 7 p.m. against St. Ambrose University.
