Box Score
Dubuque, Iowa - The Cardinal Stritch University Wolves men's volleyball team rolled through Moody Bible Institute today at the MAMVIC East Conference Tournament in Davenport, Iowa. The Wolves won the match in three sets by the scores of 30-16, 30-24, 30-14.
The Wolves set the tone early in the first set by recording seven kills from four different players, resulting in a 10-2 lead. Attack and service errors plagued Moody Bible throughout the set, and allowed for the Wolves to maintain their lead and take the first set by the score of 30-16.
The second set turned out to be slightly more competitive as Moody Bible jumped out to an early 1-5 lead after five attack errors by the Wolves. Fernando Bernal (Miami, Fla.) began the comeback for Stritch by getting a kill at 10-13 to bring the deficit to within two. Three more points by the Wolves would give them a one point lead, until Moody Bible took advantage of Stritch's service and attack errors. After going down 16-19, the Wolves would keep the score close until 20-22, at which point they would score 10 more points to Moody Bible's two, and go up two games to none.
With the Wolves in complete control of the match, the third set would not offer much excitement as Stritch dominated from start to finish. Dan Vick (Wauwatosa, Wis.) helped the Wolves' cause by scoring six consecutive points in his service rotation. Middle blockers Fernando Bernal and George Ghassan (Naperville, Ill.) held down the net on offense and defense to push the Wolves to a game three and match victory by the score of 30-14.
The Wolves will continue their tournament play on Saturday as they face Clarke College at 10 a.m.
