Mlachnik led the Wolves with three hits, two RBI, and two runs scored on Sunday
Milwaukee, Wis. – After two tough losses on Saturday, the Cardinal Stritch University baseball team came back in style, beating Calumet College of St. Joseph 16-3 on Sunday. The Wolves outhit the Crimson Wave 15-7, and got a strong performance from Jason Calvert (Milwaukee, Wis.), who recorded 11 strikeouts in the match-up.

Stritch started out hot to score two runs in the first inning. The first three batters, Mike Ploch (Burlington, Wis.), Jake Lark (Germantown, Wis.), and Dean Mlachnik (Muskego, Wis.) each singled in the inning.
The Wolves struck again in the second, using hits by Lucas Simon (Fond du Lac, Wis.), Lark, Mlachnik, and Dean Backman (Whitewater, Wis.) to score four more and take a 6-0 lead. Calvert sat down the first six CCSJ batters consecutively, recording four strikeouts in the first two innings.

The Crimson Wave managed to get two runs back in the third. Nate Sabol (Whiting, Ind.) and Ryan Senko (Lansing, Ill.) reached base on two infield hits and Chris Banks (Chicago, Ill.) used a double to score them. But the Wolves’ offense stayed hot, scoring ten more runs in the next four innings.

A Stritch error allowed CCSJ one more run in the sixth, but it wasn’t near enough, and the Wolves claimed the 16-3 victory.

Jason Calvert gets the win and improved to 3-2 on the season. The senior gave up seven hits and one walk in seven innings, while striking out 11.

Mlachnik and John Bahm (Justice, Ill.) each recorded three hits and two RBI in the game. Lark, Simon, and Micah Thompson (North Prairie, Wis.) contributed two hits each. Simon and Thompson also earned two RBI apiece.

The Wolves improve to 13-23 overall and 7-11 in the CCAC with the win. They are scheduled Judson University in a double header on Tuesday, Apr. 20. The first game will start at 5:00 p.m.
