Box Score

Notre Dame, Ind. – Already winners of 13-straight games, the Cardinal Stritch University Wolves men’s basketball team made it 14 straight as they knocked off the Holy Cross College Saints by a score of 72-55.

Playing on back-to-back days for the first time since the end of December, the Wolves got off to a sluggish start as the Saints opened up a quick three-point lead at 7-4. However, jumpers by Nate Lemmens (Rhinelander, Wis.) and Trey Triplett (Lisle, Ill.) would make up the ground, pushing Stritch ahead at 8-7 with 14 minutes left to play.

The Wolves would hit their stride in full force near the end of the half as they would lead by as much as 20, eventually ending the half with an 18-point lead at 40-22.

Opening the second half, Stritch continued their offensive domination, staking themselves to a 26-point lead at 61-35 with 10 minutes remaining in the game.

From there, the Wolves would put the game into cruise control as the closest the Saints would come to within striking distance would be at 12 points, at 63-51, with three minutes remaining. Stritch would gain the distance back by ending the game on a 9-4 run to claim their 22nd win of the season.

Stritch, which shot 45 percent from the floor for the game, was led in scoring by Kody Braddix (Glendale, Ariz.) and his 19 points and three steals. Junior Brandon D’Amico also dropped in 18 points and added 3 steals while Triplett would finish the game with 17 points and four rebounds.

Holy Cross’ Taylor Williams (South Bend, Ind.) would lead all scorers with 20 points. Williams would also log a double double in the game by adding 13 rebounds. The Saints would also get 15 points and eight rebounds from Brad Kendall (Granger, Ind.) during the non-conference battle.

The win for Stritch catapults the Wolves to 22-4 overall and drops the Saints to 3-22 this season. The Wolves will play again on Wednesday, Feb. 10 as they’ll head to Deerfield, Ill. to resume conference play against Trinity International University. The Wolves and Trojans will tip things off at 7:30 p.m.

Athletes of the Month
Andy Collins
Men's Soccer

Senior men's soccer player Andy Collins (Burnley, England)  becomes one of two athletes at Stritch to be named Athlete of the Month for the first time ever in school history.

Collins had a stellar final season for the Wolves to earn Athlete of the Month for November.  The Stritch midfielder was first on the team with a career-high eight goals and second on the team with 17 overall points as the Wolves finished the season at 12-6-1 overall and 7-3 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC).  Collins was also first for Stritch with four game-winning goals in the 2009 season.

Capping off a strong final season, the senior co-captain finished the year by being named to the CCAC All-Conference team as honorable mention.  For Collins, it is the second time in his career that he's earned this distinction.

Jocelyn Ritger
Women's Cross Country
Women's cross country runner Jocelyn Ritger (Wesst Bend, Wis.) becomes one of two athletes at Stritch to be named Athlete of the Month for the first time ever in school history.

Ritger, a junior at Stritch, has been pacing the way all season long for the Wolves women's cross country team.  The team's leading top finisher in all seven of the team's meets, Ritger placed as high as fifth overall in the Falcon Invite on Sept. 19 and sixth in the Wisconsin Private College Championship (WPCC) on Oct. 17.

The Wolves' leading runner closed out the season on a high note as she recorded a season-best time of 24:27  in the 6K during the WPCC.  She also would finish in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) meet in 12th place with a finishing time of 20:33, barely missing a chance to qualify for nationals.
Which of these sports should Cardinal Stritch University consider adding?

Nicknames
Cardinal Stritch University Athletics has had three nicknames since its inception.  In 1971, Stritch was known as the Red Devils as voted on by the student body.  In 1982, that name was changed to the Crusaders.  Stritch would go by the Crusaders nickname until 2001.  During 2001, Stritch officially became known as the Wolves, which is the current mascot of Cardinal Stritch University Athletics.
