Adrian, Mich. – The Cardinal Stritch University Wolves men’s volleyball team went 2-0 for the second straight day as they claimed wins over the College of Mount St. Joseph and Siena Heights University, both of whom the Wolves defeated the previous night.

Opening their day against the College of Mount St. Joseph, the Wolves claimed a win with a three-game sweep. Stritch won by scores of 30-5, 30-10, 30-15.

The Wolves saw a total team effort as four players had eight or more kills in the match. Senior Matt Tauaese (Pomona, Calif.) paced the way with 10 kills on 14 attempts. Meanwhile, Stritch received eight kills apiece by Garrett Payne (San Diego, Calif.), Brendan McDevitt (Chicago, Ill.), and George Ghassan (Naperville, Ill.).

CMSJ was clearly out-matched as the Wolves registered 50 kills as compared to just seven by their opponent.

The second match of the day saw Stritch play four games against the Saints of Siena Heights University. The Saints came out and stole game one 33-31, but Stritch would take the final three by scores of 30-20, 30-19, and 30-18.

Senior Austin Cass (Madison, Wis.) showed he may be returning to form as he registered 15 kills in the win. Vladimir Frenc (Belgrade, Serbia), who played sparingly in the first match, returned to play all four games and put up 14 kills for the Wolves.

Busy setting up the offense, Payne returned to his strong play as a setter by claiming 46 assists and also helping Tauaese and Scott Golden (Vernon Hills, Ill.) claim 10 kills apiece.

The wins on Saturday help the Wolves improve to 14-5 overall and to 7-2 in conference play. Stritch also now owns a five-match winning streak as well.

Stritch will return to action on Friday, March 5 as they’ll head to Fort Wayne, Ind. to take on Indiana University – Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). The Wolves and Mastodons will face each other at 7 p.m. Friday evening.
