Ben Allen and Wolves defeat Holy Cross
South Bend, Ind. – After a rough couple of matches, the Cardinal Stritch University Wolves men’s soccer team looked to rebound against the Holy Cross College Saints on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves would end up riding a three-goal effort by the offense and tough defense on the way to a 3-0 win over the Saints.

The Wolves, looking to snap a two-match losing streak, got on the board first in the opening 15 minutes of play. Senior captain Andy Collins (Burnley, England) took a pass from David Perich (Perth, Australia) and turned it into a 1-0 Stritch lead as Collins netted his sixth goal of the season. The Wolves would extend the lead to 2-0 just 10 minutes later as Gareth Ringrose (Perth, Australia) would register his third goal of the year.

Stritch would enter the break up 2-0 and riding offensive momentum. The Wolves, who have struggled to produce shots as of late, managed to generate seven shots in the half alone with four of them landing on net.

The offensive attack that Stritch was able to produce in the first half would get stronger in the second as the Wolves would add a third goal in the match courtesy of Ben Allen (Whalley, England). Allen would notch his sixth goal of the season, tying him for team lead with Collins, in the 65th minute of play, putting Stritch up 3-0 and capping the day’s scoring.

After having generated seven shots in the first half, the Wolves would add another 12 in the second to notch a total of 19 shots in the match. With the shutout, Stritch goalkeeper Max Leblond (Lille, France) would register his fourth shutout of the year.

Saturday’s win for the Wolves not only snaps the two-game skid, but also improves the team’s overall record to 10-5 and improves their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) record to 5-3. The loss drops the Saints to 2-14-1 overall and to 1-8 in the conference.

Stritch will take to the pitch again next on Wednesday, Oct. 28 as they’ll head to Joliet, Ill. to take on the University of St. Francis Fighting Saints. Wednesday’s match is slated to start at 3 p.m.
